Mr. Carl is the Partner in charge of commercial, corporate, real estate law and estate planning at Blumling & Gusky, LLP. He counsels diverse local, national and international businesses and individuals and  advises clients on general corporate and commercial matters including choice of entity issues, mergers and acquisitions, finance, management, contracting and business succession. Matt negotiates documents and closes all types of real estate and commercial transactions. He has been Chairman of the Allegheny County Bar Association Business Law Section.

Matt works with his clients developing estate-planning objectives from business succession, federal estate and Pennsylvania inheritance tax issue, protection of family assets, charitable transfers, and wills and trusts providing for minors and individuals with special needs. He assists executors and trustees in the creation and administration of decedent’s estates and trusts. He litigates Orphan’s Court matters including will contests, guardianships, adoptions and estate administration disputes.

Mr. Carl previously served as Chairman of the Pennsylvania Bar Association Committee for Individuals with Disabilities and has participated in the drafting of Pennsylvania Guardianship and Living Wills Statutes.

Mr. Carl is a Member of the American Bar Association, Pennsylvania Bar Association and Allegheny County Bar Association participating in their respective Business Law and Real Property, Probate and Trust Sections. He is rated “AV Preeminent” , the highest level of professional excellence by his peers in Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. Carl was named as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer from 2005 to present by Law and Politics. He taught as an adjunct professor at Duquesne University.

Mr. Carl received his B.A. from the University of Virginia in 1979 and his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1982. He is active in the Virginia Club of Pittsburgh and as local chairperson of the Western Pennsylvania Jefferson Scholarship Selection Committee.
