A partner in Blumling & Gusky’s Construction and Surety Industry Practice Group, Michael Klein concentrates his practice in construction, surety and general business law. Michael has successfully prosecuted and defended multi-party construction claims, mechanic’s liens, insurance coverage matters, bond claims, and other construction contract disputes including delay and inefficiency type claims on behalf of owners, general contractors and trade subcontractors.  His engagements have involved wastewater treatment plants, industrial, power generation, wind and other renewable energy facilities, manufacturing plants, schools, commercial office buildings, retail shopping centers and hotels.  He has also drafted and negotiated contracts for owners, contractors and trade subcontractors for the construction of complex industrial, power, commercial, retail, hotel, condominium and public authority development projects utilizing traditional project delivery systems, as well as construction management and design/build.  In addition, Michael’s practice includes counseling regarding insurance, bonding and green building design for construction industry clients. 

Michael is a member of the American Bar Association and its Construction and Surety Section, Forum on the Construction Industry; the Pennsylvania Bar Association and its Construction Section; and the Allegheny County Bar Association and its Construction Law Committee and Civil Litigation Section; and Construction Financial Management Association.  Michael is also a frequent speaker before trade and professional associations on a variety of topics affecting the construction industry.

Michael received his B.A. from the University of Michigan in 1992 and his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1995.  Michael is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, the United States District Court of the Western District of Pennsylvania, and has appeared before various governmental agencies such as the Board of Claims and the Department of General Services in connection with the prosecution of construction claims against the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
